ROM Mark
BD-ROM Mark is a serialization technology designed to protect against mass production piracy or the mass replication and sale of unauthorized copies of "pressed" Blu-ray Discs.
Only licensed BD-ROM manufacturers have access to the equipment that can make these unique ROM Marks, thus allowing genuine BD-ROM media like movies and music to be identified. A unique and authentic digital signature is buried in the recording which can identify whether an individual disc was pressed by an authorized glass master. The ROM Mark is located at the Burst Cutting Area (BCA) of the disc*.
It is impossible to replicate and reverse engineer the ROM Mark with consumer grade tools, as the ROM Mark is made with specialized and confidential equipment. This is also to prevent counterfeit discs. Blu-ray was not the first platform to use this type of DRM, game systems such as the PlayStation and Xbox have used similar techniques to prevent counterfeit duplication.
